Add "Abstain" to voting options instead of just up or down
Give users the ability to 'abstain' from voting on a particular idea but still show the idea as voted on.

With the vast number of ideas I try to not re-read them, but if there are some that I don't feel strongly about either way I won't vote. Then they still show the vote up or vote down buttons. If there was an option to abstain (think mark as read) that would help me manage Ideascale as a user.

Could be "Mark as read" which is a little less extreme. Even abstention means something especially in US govt. :)

Now that I think about it, you are right. A mark as read option would be much better.

I've had my users ask for this feature too

I'm in favor of this concept so long as the ability to change the vote at a later date is introduced to the product.

In our situation they should be able to vote up or down on every idea. If they are somewhere in the middle they should submit and idea that clearly explains their position so that others can vote on it.
